Best Girls Fastpitch Softball Team Names
What is in a team name? When it comes to softball – a lot! While it may be okay to be the Little Cutie Pie Lady Bugs when you’re a 6U softball team, it doesn’t really strike fear in the hearts of your opponents when you’re 14U. On the other hand do you really want a bunch of 10 year olds running around with “Brat Pack” on their softball jerseys? Not to mention all the spirit gear moms, dads, grandparents and coaches will be wearing with the team names on them.
My general rule of thumb is that a softball team name shouldn’t be something you would be embarrassed to have your preacher or your grandmother wearing on a t-shirt. It also should be age appropriate. Cute little 6 year olds in pig tails can pull off the cute names like Little Divas or Diamond Princesses. It’s really not as cute as you think it is for anyone over about 8 years old. As your softball teams start getting up in age level and competitiveness you really need a team name that matches your swagger.
True story, my high school mascot was the Kangaroo. A blue Kangaroo. I think my senior year our football team only one 1 or 2 games and I truly believe part of that was due to trying to intimidate our opponents with a 6 foot tall blue kangaroo mascot. It just didn’t work. You want to pick a name your player, parents and coaches alike will be proud to yell for and support.
Keep in mind also that softball teams planning on playing together for several years and through different levels of play don’t want to keep changing names. It’s confusing and the parents and supporters REALLY get tired of having to buy new hoodies, t-shirts, ball bags etc. every season.
Softball Team Colors
Lastly are the colors. While orange and black may be your absolute favorite colors together to most everyone else they just scream Halloween. The reverse of that would be any combination of red, white and blue. Yes they are the most American colors there are. They are also the most overused in sports in my opinion. This is girls softball, don’t be afraid to be a little creative with the colors. It doesn’t have to be either coma inducing boring or on the edge of starting an epileptic seizure. Somewhere in between those two extremes is just fine with most people. When in doubt ask a few people for their honest opinions. If everyone but you thinks it’s a bad idea, it probably is.
